Lionel Messi has moved up to joint-third in the all-time La Liga goalscoring charts as Barcelona demolished 6-0 Rayo Vallecano in La Liga.

Barcelona took the lead at the Camp Nou with just two minutes on the clock as Adriano curled the ball home. Messi then got in on the act by chipping the ball over the goalkeeper in the 36th minute.

Alexis Sanchez (53rd minute) and Pedro Rodriguez (56th minute), then hit a quickfire goal apiece to put Barcelona out of sight.

Messi soon grabbed his second of the game in the 68th minute, before Neymar capped off the evening by scoring a minute before full-time.

Messi's first goal put him level with Alfredo di Stefano in La Liga goals, with 227, before his second moved him to joint-third in the all-time list on 228 goals, the same total as former Real Madrid striker Raul.

The victory also served as the perfect warm-up for Barcelona's midweek Champions League clash against Manchester City.

In La Liga, Messi and company are top, ahead of Atletico Madrid on goal difference.
