Perrin held sway at Portsmouth for just under eight months in 2005, and went on to take charge of Lyon, Sochaux and Saint-Etienne.

The Chinese football association's vice-president Yu Hongchen is understood to have confirmed the news, as China prepares for next year's Asian Cup.

Perrin's managerial rise first came under Wenger at AS Nancy and he also went on to manage Marseille at one point.

More recently, he had been doing the rounds in Qatar, enjoying spells at Al-Khor, Al-Gharafa, and Umm-Salal in addition to the Qatari Under-23 team.

China are currently ranked 88th in the world, and are second in their qualifying group for Australia 2015, which includes Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Indonesia.
