Highly-rated Freiburg defender Matthias Ginter has given Manchester United's hopes of signing him a big boost by casting doubt on whether he would be prepared to move to Bayern Munich.

The 20-year-old has been targeted by Manchester United, something he admits has left him "honoured and excited", though Bayern Munich have remained firmly on the scene, adhering to their policy of snapping up the best talents domestically.

But Ginter does not believe it should be assumed that he will simply up sticks and join Pep Guardiola's men.

"I can't talk about my future in public, these are things that should remain private", the Germany youth international explained to broadcaster Sport 1.

"But I am pleased that some big teams are interested in me, it is an honour.

"My goal is to play for a big club in future, it is not a secret.

"Bayern? It does not necessarily have to be Bayern."

Bayern Munich were reported to be in concrete discussions for Ginter earlier this year in a sign of their serious interest in securing his services.
