Liverpool have had contact with Juan Manuel Iturbe's representatives, the Reds joining Inter, Juventus and Roma in the race for the Argentine.

The 20-year-old winger-cum-forward is on a season-long loan at Italian Serie A side Hellas Verona from FC Porto and his performances at the club have turned heads.

A number of sides have been credited with holding an interest in the Porto-contracted youngster, but as the summer approaches the race is heating up.

According to Sky Italia, Liverpool have made contact with Iturbe's representatives in a statement of their own intent, but the Reds will face stiff opposition for the Argentine's signature.

Verona indicated only last month that they are looking to activate a purchase option for Iturbe, while the player himself admitted Juventus are an attractive potential destination.

Iturbe said: "Certainly Juventus are a real team, the strongest in Italy and who wouldn't [want to join them]?"

The Argentine has made 23 appearances in Serie A for Verona so far this season, scoring five times and providing two assists for his team-mates.
