Marseille sporting director Jose Anigo has dismissed the importance of Andre Villas-Boas choosing to take charge of Russian outfit Zenit despite interest from the French giants.

Marseille had been sounding out Villas-Boas and viewed the Portuguese as a serious option to take over in the summer.

Anigo is also serving as interim coach, following the sacking of Elie Baup in December, and has reiterated the club's desire to appoint a big-name foreign manager.

"I think he [Villas-Boas] had a project with Zenit St. Petersburg which he had had in the pipeline for some time", Anigo explained at a press conference.
