Despite the owner of Ukrainian side Dnipro suggesting that a deal is not far off between his side and Tottenham Hotspur for Yevhen Konoplyanka, Spurs boss Tim Sherwood has struck a more cautious note.

Konoplyanka interested both Tottenham and their English rivals Liverpool in the January transfer window, with the latter pushing hardest and even sending representatives to the Ukraine to push through a deal.

But Dnipro owner Ihor Kolomoyskyi vetoed the transfer at the last minute, leaving Liverpool disappointed and defending their winter recruitment policy.

Kolomoyskyi recently suggested he is close to selling the winger to Tottenham, remarking: "I have had contact with the president of Tottenham, I'm in touch with him. He is interested in Konoplyanka.

"We are at the stage of negotiations and perhaps even close to signing a contract if Yevhen agrees."

Sherwood though does not see the situation quite like that, being quoted by Le 10 Sport as saying: "Konoplyanka is certainly one who is being talked about. But there is nothing definitive.

"I think we have to make sure we see a lot of these guys before they come in, not just highlights, because we have got to make sure we do our recruitment job on them."

Konoplyanka is expected to be hot property this coming summer, with Dnipro having signalled they will not stand in the way of a departure to a major western European club.
