Swedish giants AIK Stockholm are dreaming of bringing defender Jos Hooiveld to the club, with the 30-year-old currently on the fringes at Southampton.

The Dutch centre-back turned out for AIK between 2009 and 2010 before making a switch to Scottish champions Celtic.

He then spent time on loan at FC Copenhagen and Southampton before joining the latter permanently in 2011.

Now AIK are monitoring Hooiveld's situation in England with a view to potentially taking him back to Sweden.

"We are in contact with Jos, but more on a personal level", AIK technical director Bjorn Wesstrom told Expressen.

"It seems silly to close the door. He was a highly regarded and skilful footballer who played here and contributed to the success we had then", he continued.

"He also helped us financially, because he was sold for a large sum compared to the price we got him for.

"He was both a bargain and a good player, so it is clear that he is interesting for us in many ways."
