Grimshaw also captained the club’s Under-18 outfit under Paul McGuinness before he led the side in the first edition of the UEFA Youth League.

The young player was called up for the Three Lions’ Under-18 match against Italy in 2013 and also made two substitute appearances in the Under-21 Premier League this season.

"We played against United in a friendly a few weeks ago and Liam was part of their team”, he told Morecambe’s official website.

"He is highly regarded and has a fantastic attitude and desire and I am delighted that we will have him with us for the rest of the campaign.''
