The race is heating up for Marseille midfielder Mathieu Valbuena, with proposals from Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur landing at the Frenchman's feet.

Valbuena is expected to quit Marseille in the summer as he heads abroad in search of a new adventure.

The diminutive midfielder will have no shortage of options and England is a potential destination, with Newcastle and Tottenham chasing him and having made proposals, according to Tutto Mercato.

Valbuena has also been linked with Spanish giants Atletico Madrid and has admitted a liking for Los Rojiblancos and La Liga.

Marseille are looking to shed a number of players this coming summer as they try to revamp their squad – and have admitted Valbuena can leave.

The 29-year-old has made 27 appearances in Ligue 1 for Marseille so far this season, creating seven goals for his team-mates in the process.

Valbuena, who can also count Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger amongst his admirers, is under contract at Marseille until 2017.
