Newcastle United are set to compete in the Schalke 04 Cup this summer as part of preparations for the 2014/15 season.

The matches will take place on the 2nd and 3rd August, where the Magpies will have the opportunity to test their squad strength against Spanish outfit Malaga, hosts Schalke and one other, as yet unnamed club.

The venue for the matches will be the Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen. The stadium has a rich history of hosting important matches, which include the 2004 Champions League final and five matches during the 2006 World Cup.

"This is a fantastic opportunity to play in such an excellent tournament as the Schalke 04 Cup", manager Alan Pardew told the club's official site.

"I am very pleased it has been organised and announced early for the sake of our fans.
