Italian giants Fiorentina are ready to go toe-to-toe with Manchester United for Villarreal defender Mateo Musacchio this coming summer.

The 23-year-old Argentine stopper has been strongly linked with Manchester United, who are believed to be lining up a raid on the Yellow Submarine for his services as they look to bolster their backline.

There is interest from elsewhere too, with AC Milan, Barcelona and Juventus all having had a look at Musacchio's talents.

However, according to Italian broadcaster Sport Mediaset, Fiorentina are extremely interested in the Villarreal defender, having received glowing reports of his development.

Musacchio was snapped up by the Yellow Submarine in 2009, scooped from Argentine giants River Plate.

He made his La Liga debut in 2010, following a spell with Villarreal's B team.

Musacchio, who has won senior caps for Argentina, has made 26 appearances in La Liga for the club this term.
