Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso has refused to be drawn on the possibility of lining up alongside Sevilla midfielder Ivan Rakitic at the Bernabeu next season, but has dubbed the Croatian "quality".

The Sevilla man has been linked with a whole host of clubs, including Alonso's old side Liverpool, with Real Madrid the latest to show an interest.

Alonso rates Rakitic, having seen his talent first hand in La Liga this season, but feels it is too soon to be drawn into commenting on transfer speculation.

"It's very early for rumours", Alonso told a press conference when asked about the Rakitic link.

"I don't know anything", the midfielder continued.

"He is a quality player and he is used to playing in Spain.

"But at the moment we are not thinking in terms of signings."

Rakitic landed at Sevilla from Bundesliga side Schalke in 2011 and quickly established himself at the club.

His contract with Los Rojiblancos runs until 2015.
