Yann M'Vila had his heart set on joining Liverpool in January, but his current club Rubin Kazan advised him against making the move to Anfield, telling the midfielder he would simply warm the bench.

M'Vila has long been linked with joining Liverpool, but rather than move to England last year, instead headed to Russia and the riches on offer at Rubin Kazan.

It has been claimed he is unsettled at the club and Rubin coach Ribat Bilyaletdinov has shed a little more light on the situation, bringing Liverpool into the mix.

The coach explained to France Football: "He has to prove his value and work like everyone else. I don't mean that he doesn't work, but we can see that he misses France.

"In January, M'Vila behaved badly. One day he trained, one day he didn't.

"Maybe his agents had promised him something. He thought he was already at Liverpool."

And Bilyaletdinov revealed he told the former Rennes midfielder it was not in his best interests to push for a switch to the Reds.

"I told him 'it is not your level. If you go, you will be on the bench'. He was very disappointed."

M'Vila may well be at the centre of transfer speculation once again this coming summer, but it remains to be seen at what price Rubin Kazan will look to cash in on the 23-year-old.
