West Ham United have become the fourth and the final club to be confirmed as part of the Schalke Cup in the summer this year.

The Hammers will play alongside hosts Schalke, La Liga side Malaga, and Premier League rivals Newcastle United on 2nd and 3rd August at the Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen, which boasts of hosting the Champions League final in 2004 and five matches in the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

The Magpies’ place in the four-team tournament was revealed earlier this month, and their boss Alan Pardew was delighted at the opportunity which would set the ground up perfectly to prepare for the 2014/15 season.

"This is a fantastic opportunity to play in such an excellent tournament as the Schalke Cup", he told the club's official site.

"We will be facing top-quality opposition and hopefully it will form part of a successful pre-season for us ahead of the 2014/15 season.”

According to the tournament format, two matches will be played each day, with the winner of the match being awarded three points. In case the game ends in a draw, a penalty shootout will take place and the winner will get two points.

The club which bags the most points in their two matches will be declared the winner. The cup might also see Schalke and Malaga face each other for the first time in their respective histories.
