Newcastle United skipper Fabricio Coloccini has urged his team-mates to show some pride in the shirt after his side suffered their fourth consecutive loss in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Magpies lost 1-0 to Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium after already going down against Everton, Southampton and Manchester United over the past few weeks.

Alan Pardew’s team are ninth in the league table with 46 points in their pocket, and with just four more games to go in the season, Coloccini feels the players need to shake off their complacency and do justice to Newcastle’s jersey and their supporters.

"We are very disappointed because we came into this from three games where we did not play well, and then [on Saturday] we didn't play well again”, the Argentine defender told the club’s official site.

“We have to improve and do that quickly before the end of the season.

"We know we have achieved our objective of finishing in the top ten but we are playing with the Newcastle United shirt on and we have to have respect for that”, the 32-year-old continued.

"We are trying. We are trying to win every game, of course we are. We have to play with pride for this club and for the fans."

The Magpies will be looking to make things right when they host Swansea City at St. James’ Park on Saturday and then travel to Arsenal on 28th April.
