Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain has scored his first hat-trick for the club, 29 years after the legendary Diego Maradona achieved the same feat against the same opponents.

The 4-2 win against Lazio helped Rafael Benitez's men leave behind the disappointment of last week's 1-0 loss to Parma and get their season back on track.

It was back in 1985 that the Argentine legend scored his first hat-trick for the Azzurri to beat Lazio 4-0.

29 years later, his countryman did the same, putting his team 2-1 up from the spot in the 49th minute and then adding two more against ten-man Lazio to complete his hat-trick.

"I played like I always do, only this time the ball went in", Higuain told UEFA's official site.

"I was always very calm because I know our coach has faith in me.

"I'm happy for me and for the team, it was a very important victory after the defeat against Parma. This time luck was by our side."

The Argentine has scored 17 goals this season in 31 matches and has also provided his team-mates with seven equally important assists.
