Arsene Wenger has lavished praise on Olivier Giroud for his well-taken strike against West Ham at the Emirates Stadium tonight.

Giroud scored a goal which made everyone sit up in the 55th minute, controlling a long ball in the penalty box, killing it dead with his left-foot, despite being barged by a defender, and then drilling a shot through the West Ham goalkeeper's legs. It was a strike which instantly drew comparisons with Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp.

It was a standout moment in Arsenal's 3-1 win over the Hammers and one that had Wenger admitting the goal was simply superb.

"It was a great goal, really a great goal", he told Sky Sports.

"The first touch with the left foot and great finish with the right foot. It was a fantastic goal."

Asked whether it was amongst the best goals he has seen, Wenger replied: "Yes.

"If the first touch in the box is not perfect you have no chance to score."
