Liverpool legend Ronnie Whelan feels that it is still early to call the title winners as the Premier League will see a lot more ups and downs this season.

Brendan Rodgers’ side, currently leading the table, are being dubbed as this year’s winners across various quarters. But the Reds are being closely followed by Chelsea, who are sitting in second place just two points behind Liverpool, and third-placed Manchester City, who are seven points behind the leaders but still have two games in hand.

With four games remaining for the Anfield outfit, bagging all 12 points will ensure they go on to lift the trophy after 24 years. However, if they lose points anywhere, Jose Mourinho’s men or the Citizens could trump them in the title race.

Chelsea still have a visit due to Liverpool on 27th April, and the clash could be a title-decider, but the Whelan feels the race is still open and insists that the Reds need to focus on winning against Norwich City on Sunday first.

"I don't think anyone can call it at this moment", he told BBC Radio 5 live.

"There is still so much to happen, but it is in Liverpool's hands.

"It is very easy to get wrapped up in all this talk of winning the league, but they have to go to Norwich to win”, the former midfielder continued.

"They have a new manager. They are fighting relegation so it is not going to be easy."
