Manchester United have been linked with sizing up former Spartak Moscow coach Valery Karpin as a possible replacement for the under-fire David Moyes.

The Red Devils are assessing potential successors to Moyes if they choose to part company with the former Everton man. And according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, Karpin has fallen onto the club's radar as an option.

The 45-year-old won 72 caps for Russia between 1992 and 2003 and spent part of his career playing in Spain's La Liga, turning out for Real Sociedad, Valencia and Celta Vigo.

Karpin has had two spells in the dugout at Spartak Moscow, as well as serving the club as director general.

It remains to be seen how strong a contender Karpin will be to succeed Moyes, if the Scot is shown the door at Old Trafford after a season which has seen the Red Devils miss out on a top four spot in the Premier League.

Holland coach Louis van Gaal has also been mooted as a potential successor to Moyes, while a vacancy at Old Trafford would also likely see household names such as Jurgen Klopp, Diego Simeone and Antonio Conte linked with the job.
