Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger feels his side's 3-1 win over West Ham at the Emirates Stadium this evening was hard-fought.

The Gunners headed into the Premier League contest looking for three points to leapfrog Everton into fourth spot. However, they suffered a blow when Matt Jarvis headed home for the visitors in the 40th minute.

Lukas Podolski equalised just four minutes later though before a wonder strike from Olivier Giroud, who killed a long ball dead in the penalty box before drilling home, put Arsenal 2-1 up in the 55th minute.

Podolski then scored his second of the evening and Arsenal's third with a little over ten minutes left.

"I think we built the victory tonight through control in our game, but the vital thing was to come back before half-time", Wenger told Sky Sports post-match.

"We controlled the game, but overall it was a hard-fought win, an important one and a very pleasant one after Saturday's game [FA Cup semi-final vs Wigan]."

Arsenal now sit fourth in the Premier League but Everton can reclaim that spot when they take on Crystal Palace tomorrow.
