Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is preparing to move to tie down coach Rafael Benitez following speculation that Tottenham Hotspur and Schalke are keen on appointing him this summer.

Benitez took over at Napoli last summer, fresh off having led Chelsea into the Premier League top four and to glory in the Europa League.

He has made a positive impression at Napoli and has the Azzurri currently sitting third in Serie A, while they counted themselves unfortunate to crash out of the Champions League at the group stage.

And De Laurentiis does not want to lose Benitez.

The Spaniard has a one-year contract at Napoli, which the club can extend by a further season by 15th May.

According to southern Italian daily Il Mattino, Napoli will respond to speculation of interest from Spurs and Schalke by offering the Spaniard a deal which runs far beyond just a one-year extension.

Benitez is believed to be minded to remain with Napoli, especially as the club have backed him in the transfer market.
