Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has saluted Gareth Bale after the Welshman fired Los Blancos to victory in the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona this evening.

At the Mestalla in Valencia, Angel di Maria handed Real Madrid the lead in the 11th minute, allowing Ancelotti's men to head in 1-0 ahead at half time.

Marc Bartra pulled Barcelona level in the 68th minute however and, as the clock ticked on, it appeared extra time might be needed.

But Bale, surging forward down the left flank, shrugging off Bartra, ended the contest by firing home with five minutes left, delighting the Real Madrid fans and Ancelotti.

"Bale scored an important goal at a critical moment", the Real Madrid boss explained post-match.

"Everyone played well because they played as a team, compact as always."

The Real Madrid boss also had warm words for Barcelona.

"I think Barcelona played well", he said.

"Maybe things haven't worked out for them this season, but they will still fight for La Liga."
