Atletico Madrid forward Adrian Lopez has insisted that his side will take one game at a time as they try to stay on course to win the Spanish league this year.

Currently leading La Liga’s table, Diego Simeone’s team are three points ahead of second-placed Real Madrid and four points in front of defending champions Barcelona.

With five games to go for the Vicente Calderon side this league season, the Spanish international feels his side need to take each fixture as a final in itself as they get ready to face Elche at home on Friday, in what the Lopez feels will be a difficult encounter.

“The match against Elche isn’t going to be easy. We know they have a lot at stake and it’s going to be very complicated”, Lopez was quoted as saying by the club’s site.

“We’re there. Time is running out, it’s only five matches, we’re leading. We’ll try to keep going match by match, trying to win the points and stay there.

“We have to carry on like this, knowing that all the matches left are all finals. We’ll play as if it were a final and try to end the season well”, the 26-year-old added.

The Red and Whites are also in contention for the Champions League this year, as they knocked Barcelona out in the quarter-finals of the European tournament, and will now host English giants Chelsea in the first-leg of their semi-final tie on Tuesday.
