Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho admits that last night’s draw against Sunderland at the Etihad Stadium was nothing short of ‘a complete disaster’ after they lost to Liverpool last weekend.

The Brazilian gave the lead to the Citizens in the second minute of the game, but two Connor Wickham strikes in the 73rd and 83rd minutes shocked the home side and they could only salvage a point when Samir Nasri equalised in the 88th minute.

“The whole team is disappointed about the result, especially in the way we played. The result was a complete disaster for us”, Fernandinho was quoted as saying by ITV.

Fernandinho blamed his team’s lack of discipline and the failure to control the game at home against the Black Cats for the disappointing result.

“We started well and scored the goal, but for 50 minutes after that we lost control of the game and they played better than us.

“We scored after two minutes but then changed our style of game and paid for it. They had three clear chances in the first half and then scored two in the second half, when we lost our position on the pitch.”

The 28-year-old still believes that the league title is still not out of their reach, but the Sky Blues cannot afford any more mistakes in their last few games of the season if they harbour any hope of winning the league.

“We need to keep our heads up and think about the next game, when we cannot make a silly mistake, as we did.”

Manchester City are currently third in the Premier League table on 71 points, six points away from the league leaders Liverpool but with a game in hand.
