Bayern Munich sporting director Matthias Sammer has said that he is delighted with the side’s victory in the German Cup semi-final, but insists that the team will have to better their performance if they hope to win the treble again this season.

The German giants beat second division side Kaiserslautern 5-1 in the semi-final of the knockout tournament at the Allianz Arena yesterday, after a strong defensive performance from the Red Devils made it difficult for the Bavarians to breakthrough in the early minutes of the game.

Winning their second game in the last seven outings across all competitions, Pep Guardiola’s side have hit a rough patch following their Bundeslliga title win last month, and Sammer is concerned with the way things have changed since then.

“We’re delighted to be in the final, but I’m not happy with how we’re playing. There are too many lapses in concentration and not much by way of a group dynamic”, he was quoted as saying by Bayern Munich’s site.

“I think we’re being too positive and too nice to each other. We need a little more fire and also the courage to speak out and talk about these things.

“We gave the players enough space for a breather after sealing the championship”, the 46-year-old German continued.

“If things stay as they are it’ll be tough collecting another trophy. But if we can get back to playing as we did before wrapping up the league we’re capable of winning everything.”

Besides the German Cup final, Bayern Munich will play Real Madrid in the semi-final of the Champions League as they look to win their second consecutive treble this season.
