Tottenham winger Erik Lamela has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with back injury.

The Lilywhites' record signing has failed to live up to expectations, managing only nine appearances for the club and has provided his team-mates with a single assist.

His only goal in a Tottenham shirt came during the team's 2-1 win in the Europa League against Sheriff Tiraspol in November.

"There'll be no chance Erik's fit", manager Tim Sherwood was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"I read in the paper, or someone told me, that the hierarchy here are asking for him to get more opportunities.

"Chance would be a fine thing, he's injured."

With Lamela's history with injuries, the manager feels that the Argentine has been unfortunate at not being been able to make his mark at White Hart Lane.

"I've assessed the rest of the squad and I've got my ideas on who's capable and probably who's not.

"With Erik, the jury's still out because I haven't seen enough of him – so he's been very unfortunate", the 45-year-old added.
