Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has refused to admit defeat in the race for the English title, and insisted that his team will continue to put in their best efforts in the remaining games.

The Citizens dropped important points on Wednesday when they were held to a 2-2 draw against bottom-placed Sunderland. Currently third in the table, the Sky Blues are six points behind leaders Liverpool and have a game in hand.

With five games still to go for them this season, the Chilean boss is certain that the race for the title is still open and is not ready to rule his side out yet as they gear up to face West Bromwich Albion on Monday.

"I am absolutely sure the other teams will drop points in the same way we did in the last game", Pellegrini was quoted as saying by the club’s site.

"We have 15 more points to play for and we will try and win the most number of points.

"Then, at the end of the season, we will see who has the title. All of us want to win as much as we can. We must try to finish this season in the best way.

"I hope we can have the same attitude and intensity and continue playing with good quality”, the 60-year-old continued.

"The performance in every game is very important and I hope we are going to improve our performance against West Brom."

Manchester City will also be facing Crystal Palace, Everton, Aston Villa and West Ham United over the coming weeks as they hope to clinch their second Premier League title.
