Marseille full-back Benjamin Mendy has caught the eye of Manchester United as the 20-time English champions look for an heir to Patrice Evra’s position in the squad, according to French sports daily L’Equipe.

Mendy joined Marseille from Le Havre for a deal worth €3.5m in July last year and signed a four-year contract with the club.

Marseille president Vincent Labrune is unwilling to sell the highly rated youngster, but an offer in excess of €7m will test his resolve as the French club are in dire need of funds to balance the books.

Mendy has made 22 appearances for Marseille in Ligue 1 this season, scoring one goal and providing three assists.
