Manchester United defender Phil Jones believes that the club should work hard to grab a spot in the Europa League for next season.

Set to miss out on Champions League football next term for the first time since 1995, the Red Devils currently sit seventh in the Premier League and are instead aiming to play in the Europa League in 2014/15.

With breaking into the top four a forlorn hope, Jones feels that club should still be excited about the challenge the Europa League will represent.

"Obviously we want to be in the Champions League, but that’s probably not going to be the case next season", he told MUTV.

"However, the Europa League is still a good competition and one that we should strive to be in.

"Any European competition is tough as there are any number of teams that can cause you problems.

"If we’re in it, we’ll want to win it."

Manchester United will bid to take another step towards Europa League qualification tomorrow when they head to face fifth-placed Everton at Goodison Park.
