David Moyes feels that Juan Mata has not earned the credit he deserves in recent weeks, with the Spaniard's performances having impressed the Manchester United manager.

Mata landed at Old Trafford in January from Chelsea, costing the Red Devils a club-record fee of £37.1m. He clocked up an impressive performance in the club's recent 4-0 win away at Newcastle, scoring twice.

And Moyes believes the former Valencia man is starting to settle in well, though that is something which has not yet been universally recognised.

"One thing I will say is it’s been missed how well Mata has done", the Scot said via his club's site.

"I think it’s gone a little bit amiss but Mata has been terrific in his play."

Moyes also believes that Mata has developed a fine understanding with club talisman Wayne Rooney, along with his other team-mates.

"He’s started to assist goals and score goals and has struck up an understanding with Wayne and with who [else] he’s played with.

"Juan has been a little bit overlooked. I could nearly say you don’t want to talk about anything so positive, but he’s been really good."
