Sunderland match-winner Fabio Borini has revealed that Liverpool fans urged him to put Chelsea to the sword today, as he managed to make their dreams come true.

Chelsea grabbed the lead in the 12th minute with a Samuel Eto'o strike, but Sunderland were quickly level when Connor Wickham found the back of the net only six minutes later.

Chelsea could not find a response however and it was left to Sunderland to strike again, a controversial penalty being awarded and Borini stepping up, shrugging off the pressure, and blasting the ball home with eight minutes left in the game.

It means if Liverpool beat Norwich tomorrow they will move five points clear of Chelsea and Borini, who is on loan at Sunderland from the Reds, knows he did his parent club a big favour.

"It was the three points for the game and obviously Chelsea were up for the league and we up for the relegation battle", he told Sky Sports.

"Most of all I think the Liverpool fans [asked for me to help] more than the players.

"I had lots of Tweets from Liverpool fans asking for the favour."

Chelsea still have to visit Liverpool next weekend, while Sunderland stay bottom of the league, but move to within three points of safety.
