Liverpool's principal owner, John W Henry, has admitted the club only set their sights on finishing in the Premier League's top four this season, rather than winning the title.

The Reds sit top of the table on 77 points, with just four more games left to play. They can extend their lead over second-placed Chelsea to five points if they beat Norwich City tomorrow.

It has come as a surprise to many in English football, and to the club's American owners too, with Henry admitting that winning the league would qualify as being very much ahead of schedule.

"We had our sights set on a top four finish because we're building", Henry told the BBC.

"It's a challenge with the way the league is structured, so if we were fortunate enough to win this year, I would say we're ahead of schedule", the American added.

Following Liverpool's visit to Norwich tomorrow, the Reds welcome Chelsea to Anfield in what could be a game that all but puts the seal on the return of the English crown to the club for the first time since 1990.
