Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert believes his side need one more win to be safe from relegation after they played out a goalless draw with Southampton today.

Chances were at a premium at Villa Park, but Southampton dominated the game, enjoying the lion's share of the possession and looking the more likely to make the breakthrough.

However, the Saints could not score and neither could Aston Villa, meaning each side took a point apiece.

That leaves Villa on 35 points from 34 games, five clear of the drop zone and sitting 15th. And Lambert feels one more win from their four remaining fixtures will guarantee Premier League football once again next term.

"To play the way we did in the second half, against a good Southampton side, I cannot fault the effort", he was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"The lads deserve enormous credit and with their energy and desire I couldn't be prouder", Lambert continued.

"Our goal difference is pretty good, so we'll probably need one more win [to be safe]."

Aston Villa's remaining games see them take on Swansea (away), Hull (home), Manchester City (away) and Tottenham Hotspur (away).
