Manuel Pellegrini insists that the best his Manchester City side can do is put pressure on Liverpool after they beat West Brom 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium this evening.

Goals from Pablo Zableta and Sergio Aguero within the first ten minutes put the Citizens firmly in control of the Premier League contest, though Graham Dorrans pulled one back for the Baggies in the 16th minute with a shot from the edge of the box.

Manchester City hit back though, with Martin Demichelis grabbing a goal in the 36th minute. And 3-1 was how it stayed, Pellegrini's men cutting the gap to leaders Liverpool to six points, while they also boast one game in hand.

Asked about the title race by Sky Sports post-match, the Chilean said: "It's exactly the same but we now have three more points.

"We always talk with the players that if Liverpool win their three matches and win 14 in a row they will be champions.

"But our duty is to try to win the games and in that way Liverpool can feel pressure.

"We have to do our work and our work is to win our games."

In an injury blow Manchester City saw David Silva stretchered off, while Aguero was also withdrawn, the latter appearing more of a precautionary measure however.
