Newcastle United right-back Mathieu Debuchy is disappointed after his side lost 2-1 against Swansea City following a stoppage time penalty on Saturday.

The Magpies headed into the game on the back of four defeats, but managed to take the lead with a Shola Ameobi strike in the 23rd minute, but Wilfried Bony equalised before the closing of the first half and followed it with a penalty in the 90th minute as the Swans took all three points away from the hosts.

Alan Pardew’s side are ninth in the Premier League, just three points ahead of 11th placed Crystal Palace, with Stoke City sitting at tenth just two points behind. With their place in the top half now under threat, Debuchy is disappointed with the way things unfolded at St. James' Park and feels that his side deserved a draw at least.

"Everyone is very disappointed, of course", the French international told the club’s site.

“We wanted to go out there and get a win, so to lose – and in that manner, with a last-minute penalty – was really disappointing. It is always harder to take like that.

"I think we deserved at least a draw from that but we have to look back at the mistakes we made”, the 28-year-old continued.

"We lost from two set pieces – a corner and a penalty – and that is nowhere near good enough."

Newcastle United now have a difficult run ahead of them as they face Arsenal, Cardiff City and league leaders Liverpool over the remaining weeks.
