Arsenal have received a boost after long-term injury absentee Abou Diaby returned to action this evening.

The defensive midfielder has been out of action since March last year with a serious knee injury, but was included in the Arsenal Under-21 side to play Chelsea Under-21s at the Emirates Stadium.

Diaby completed 45 minutes during the game, being withdrawn at half-time as he continues to be eased back into action.

Arsenal Under-21s lost the contest at the Emirates Stadium, going down 2-1 to Chelsea Under-21s.

The Gunners had been leading at half-time, but crumbled to two goals in the second half following Diaby's withdrawal.

Looking to cement fourth place in the Premier League and win the FA Cup, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger will undoubtedly be delighted to have Diaby back under consideration for first team duty.

The midfielder also recently claimed he has not given up hope of being included in the France squad for the summer's World Cup.
