After David Moyes was sacked this morning, Louis van Gaal has become one of the top contenders for the manager’s job at Old Trafford. But with Arsene Wenger not signing an extension to his current deal that expires this summer, Arsenal have also become one of the options for Van Gaal, according to Dutch magazine Voetbal International.

Guus Hiddink will take over the Holland job from Van Gaal after this summer’s World Cup in Brazil and the former Barcelona manager has shown a strong inclination towards taking a job with an English club.

Wenger has still not extended a contract that expires at the end of the season and that has led to the speculation that the Arsenal manager’s job might become available this summer.

Arsenal confirmed the appointment of Dutch coach Andries Jonker as the head of their academy in January this year, replacing Liam Brady who will step down at the end of the season.

Jonker has served as an assistant to Van Gaal at Barcelona and Bayern Munich and could well attract the 62-year-old to take over the Arsenal job if Wenger decides to end his 18-year-old association with the club.

Meanwhile, with Moyes being sacked this morning, Van Gaal has become one of the top contenders to be the next manager of Manchester United and a few weeks ago is believed to have spoken to one of the Glazers, who own Manchester United.

Van Gaal has a decorated managerial career that includes three Dutch league titles and a Champions League crown with Ajax and two La Liga crowns with Barcelona in 1998 and 1999. He also won the German domestic double of the Bundesliga and German Cup with Bayern Munich in the 2009/10 campaign.
