Sports psychologist Dr. Steve Peters has compared Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers with ex-British Cycling team boss Sir Dave Brailsford.

Peters has worked with the Liverpool squad this season and said that Rodgers is "very psychologically minded" like Brailsford.

Peters has expressed his delight at working with Rodgers and said that the Northern Irishman, who currently has Liverpool sitting top of the Premier League, is constantly challenging him and looking for suggestions to make the Reds psychologically better equipped.

"Rodgers wants to make sure he's got it right. He will question what I do, engage with it”, Peters told the BBC.

“To me, it is just magic to work with somebody like that. You work as a team again.

"And I can't tell him what to do. He will say to me: 'What do you suggest? What do you recommend?"'

Brailsford was the coach of the British Cycling team in the Beijing and London Olympics that won eight gold medals.

Before taking over at Liverpool in 2012, Rodgers managed Swansea and achieved promotion to the Premier League with the Welsh club in 2011 when they beat Reading in the Championship playoff final at Wembley.
