Manchester United have confirmed that Ryan Giggs will serve as manager until a permanent appointment is made.

The English champions sacked David Moyes this morning, with the former Everton boss paying the price for a poor campaign which will see the club miss out on the Champions League next season.

Now Giggs has been handed the reins until the Red Devils make a permanent appointment.

The club said in a statement: "Following the departure of David Moyes as manager, Manchester United has announced that Ryan Giggs, the club’s most decorated player, will assume responsibility for the first team until a permanent appointment can be made.

"The club will make no further comment on this process until it is concluded."

Moyes was appointed successor to Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford last summer, but has failed to last even a year in the job.
