England Rugby’s 2003 World Cup-winning coach Sir Clive Woodward feels it is time England's footballers start their preparations for the World Cup in Brazil this summer.

England are drawn along with Italy, Costa Rica and Uruguay in the group stage and will face Cesare Prandelli’s side in the first game on 14th June in the hot and humid conditions of Manaus.

Woodward feels the extreme heat will test the players and insists that the team who prepare and adapt to the conditions better will have a better chance at succeeding on South America.

“It’s the same [the conditions] for both sides. You’ve got to prepare better than them”, he said in an interview with the FA’s site.

“The amount of detail you’ve got to go into – the hydration and preparation – it’s all learning.

“Don’t think you can start ploughing the knowledge into the players when they get to Brazil. It should be happening now”, the 58-year-old added.

The Three Lions were eliminated in the last 16 of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa after losing out 4-1 to Germany, but the 1966 World Cup winners will be hoping to leave a better impression this time around when they kick start the tournament in June.
