Aston Villa winger Aleksandar Tonev has said that he is impatiently waiting to strike his first goal for the English club after being off target a few times.

The Bulgarian international joined the Villa Park club in the summer of 2013 from Polish club Lech Poznan, but has failed to score in his 20 appearances since then.

He came quite close to the target during the Claret and Blues’ game against Manchester United, and closer still in the game against Fulham, where his strike was stopped by the Cottagers’ goalkeeper David Stockdale.

"I like to shoot in every game and I love to score goals", the 24-year old told Aston Villa’s official site.

“I thought I was going to score when I hit both those shots. The one at Manchester United wasn't very far wide, and I hit the one against Fulham really well but it was a great save by their goalkeeper.

"It's a brilliant feeling to score and I can't wait to get my first goal for Aston Villa", he added.

With four more games to go in the league this season, Tonev will be hoping to add at least one strike to his name, when the Villans play Swansea City, Hull City, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur over the next few weeks.
