Leeds United manager Brian McDermott has expressed his disappointment at conceding early goals that led to his side being beaten by Nottingham Forest.

Two early goals within the first 16 minutes of the game from Matt Derbyshire helped Nottingham Forest to register a comfortable 2-0 win over Leeds despite the Whites dominating possession for most parts of the game yesterday at Elland Road.

“It summed up the last three months of our season in some respects”, McDermott told the club’s official site.

“We gave away a couple of goals early on, then had a lot of possession, but didn’t really hurt them.”

The former Arsenal midfielder praised Forest’s defensive organisation, but believes his team could have done much better defensively themselves to stop conceding so early in the match.

“They were well organised and we couldn’t break them down. We have to be better than that. We had to stay in the game and we didn’t do that.”

The 53-year-old is now looking to finish the season strongly and is looking forward to an improved performance from his team in the last two games of the campaign.

“We have to play a lot better than we did in the first half. We’ve done it in the last couple of games and kept two clean sheets, but we didn’t do it on Monday.”

Leeds United are currently 16th in the Championship table on 53 points.
