Louis van Gaal is preparing for talks with Manchester United over their vacant managerial position.

The Red Devils parted company with David Moyes earlier today, the former Everton boss paying the price for a lacklustre campaign which will see the club out of the Champions League next term.

Jurgen Klopp has ruled himself out of the running and Van Gaal, who will leave his post as Holland coach after the World Cup, is the leading candidate.

According to Dutch daily De Telegraaf, Van Gaal has headed to his villa in Portugal, where he can meet with Manchester United representatives in peace.
