Stewart Downing is itching to get to 40 points this season, which will guarantee survival in the Premier League for West Ham United.

West Ham are currently 12th in the Premier League table on 37 points and a win in their next fixture against West Brom will take them to 40 points, widely believed to be the points tally that guarantees survival in the Premier League.

The former Liverpool winger is looking forward to a positive result against West Brom next weekend to guarantee survival for the Hammers and believes that even a point against the Baggies is handy at this late stage of the season.

“West Brom is a big game on Saturday and we'd love to get three points, but even if we take a point I think it would be a big result”, the 29-year-old told the club’s official site.

"They are in and around us, so if we can keep them below us that would be important."

West Ham will take on West Brom in the Premier League at the Hawthorns this Saturday.

Downing has made 29 league appearances for the Hammers this season, failing to find the back of the net even once, but has provided two assists.
