Bayern Munich captain Philipp Lahm has stated that his team will not settle for a draw against Real Madrid when they play in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final at the Santiago Bernabeu tonight.

Bayern Munich defeated Manchester United 4-2 on aggregate in the quarter-finals to book their place in the Champions League semi-finals.

"It's not enough to settle for a draw; we're a strong team", the 30-year-old told UEFA’s official site.

Lahm accepts that Real Madrid on their home turf are a tough side to play against, but believes that the Bavarians have enough firepower in their team to topple the Spanish giants tonight.

"We've won the Bundesliga and we must be ambitious and want to win the Champions League. We're here to win, but we are all aware that it is a difficult task."

Bayern Munich ousted Real Madrid at the same stage of the competition two years back on penalties after a 3-3 aggregate score.

If Bayern Munich go on to win the Champions League this season, then they will become the first team since AC Milan, in 1989 and 1990, to defend the European Cup. No team have defended the trophy in its modern Champions League format.
