Yaya Sanogo has identified former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry as his childhood idol and one of the main reasons he joined the Gunners.

The young French striker joined Arsenal from Auxerre on a free transfer last summer and signed a four-year deal with the Gunners.

“First of all because when you think Arsenal, you think Thierry Henry and I grew up watching him and he made me dream”, the 21-year-old told the club’s official site, when asked why he had made the move to the Emirates Stadium.

Sanogo hails the same town as Henry and admits that following in the footsteps of the legendary Arsenal striker has been one of his ambitions.

“He was incredible. We come from the same town, Les Ulis, in the outskirts of Paris, and he was always an example for me.

“Following in his footsteps and coming here was always a dream for me. More than a dream, it was an objective.”

Sanogo made his debut for Arsenal against Fulham at Craven Cottage, when he came on in the 81st minute for Lukas Podolski as the Gunners went on to win the match 3–1.

The young Frenchman has made eleven appearances for Gunners this season, scoring a solitary goal.
