Ajax coach Frank de Boer has attempted to play down growing speculation he has been contacted by Tottenham Hotspur with a view to taking over at White Hart Lane in the summer.

It has been claimed that Spurs have been in touch with both Ajax and De Boer to register their interest, with the Dutchman promising to consider the switch, but only after the end of the Eredivisie.

De Boer has attempted to put a lid on such talk though and when contacted by Voetbal International, replied: "Spurs? I know nothing."

The former Barcelona defender has just led Ajax to a fourth successive Eredivisie title this term and his stock is sky high.

De Boer has even been mooted as a contender to take over at his former club, Barcelona, if Gerardo Martino leaves the Camp Nou in the summer.

Tottenham have turned to De Boer after their preferred target Louis van Gaal started talks with Manchester United about taking charge at Old Trafford.

Van Gaal has already agreed the terms of a contract with Manchester United along with how much money he would have to spend in the transfer market.

The current Holland coach is expected to have his appointment confirmed before the World Cup if he can iron out a few remaining minor details.
