Borussia Dortmund defender Marcel Schmelzer has reacted positively to reported interest from Premier League leaders Liverpool.

The Germany international full-back has been mooted as a target for the Reds, who are preparing to embark upon a summer of squad strengthening in preparation for their return to the Champions League next season.

Schmelzer was sidelined earlier this term with a calf muscle strain and has managed just 17 Bundesliga appearances this season after being afflicted with various niggles.

The 26-year-old is hoping to end the season on a high by helping Dortmund beat Bayern Munich in the German Cup final, but he has had time to think about chatter around a swoop from Liverpool.

"Naturally I look forward to hearing things like that and it's nice when top clubs are interested in you", he told German daily WAZ.

"But I still have a contract with Borussia Dortmund until 2016", he added.

"I feel very, very good at BVB."

The 26-year-old, who was born in East Germany, is a product of Dortmund's highly-rated youth system.

He has won 16 caps for Germany at international level.
