New Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino has his heart set on taking striker Victor Ibarbo to Elland Road from his Italian club Cagliari.

Cellino, who has acquired 75 per cent of Leeds, also owns Cagliari and is looking to ship a number of players from the Serie A side to Yorkshire.

Several talents have been mooted as being in Cellino's sights, but according to Italian daily Tuttosport, Colombian international Ibarbo is the powerbroker's primary target.

Cellino appears to be convinced that Ibarbo can pose a danger to Championship defences and aid Leeds in their bid to force themselves into the promotion shake-up next season.

Ibarbo may not be the only Cagliari player to make the switch to Leeds when the dust settles on a frantic transfer window though.

Also potential signings for Leeds from the Rossoblu are defender Danilo Avelar and midfielders Andrea Tabanelli and Sebastian Eriksson.

And Leeds could do their business early, with boss Brian McDermott having admitted after the club's 1-1 draw with Derby County that it is essential.

"It's really important [the time before pre-season].

"You go into the season with new players with the pre-season planning done and where we're going to travel to, the pre-season games.

"And we need to be doing that, and we need to be doing that pretty quickly."
