Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho has revealed that he will start thinking about his Brazil call-up for the World Cup only after his side’s final game of the season on Sunday.

Brazil manager Luiz Felipe Scolari named the 29-year-old in his World Cup squad on Wednesday.

And Fernandinho, who explained it was great news, insisted that he is currently focused on Manchester City’s Premier League title charge as the Citizens just need a point from their final game of the season against West Ham United on Sunday to be crowned the champions of England for the second time in three years.

"Wednesday was a great day”, Fernandinho told his club’s official site.

"I was in the team hotel when the squad was announced. There was no telephone call, I looked on the internet and I saw what I was looking for.

"Of course being called up for the World Cup is a big thing for me but I cannot start thinking about it until after Sunday.

“That's when I may start to feel emotional about it. Maybe on Sunday night or Monday will be the time for me to celebrate my call up and the league title.

"For now I need to be calm and concentrate on Sunday's game. After that I can do anything."

The Brazilian international further added that his side’s 4-0 win over Aston Villa on Wednesday, which took the club two points clear at the top of the table with a game remaining, was a “massive result” for the Etihad Stadium club.

"We still have one match to go and we need to get something from that one – but the win over Aston Villa was massive for us – a massive result.”
